All about 2016-2023 Tacoma Coilovers

On the 2016-2023 Tacoma, a front coilover replaces the factory strut and spring with one height-adjustable unit. It is the most common way to level the front and the biggest step up in control on rough roads. Many coilovers here also fit the 2005-2015 Tacoma. Brands here are ICON, FOX, King, BDS, ARB and Bilstein.

Lift range. Most bolt-in coilovers give 0 to 3 inches of front lift. Some ICON, BDS and FOX coilovers here are built for a 6 inch subframe lift kit and will not work on a stock truck. The listing says so.

How to choose

Shock type

2.0 inch coilovers from FOX and Bilstein are a solid daily upgrade. 2.5 inch internal and remote reservoir coilovers from ICON, King and FOX run cooler off-road. FOX internal bypass coilovers firm up deeper in the travel to resist bottoming.

Adjusters

ICON CDCV and CDEV, FOX DSC and King adjuster versions let you tune compression damping.

Spring rate

ICON 700 lb versions are for trucks with a heavy front bumper or winch. Stick with the standard rate otherwise.

Extended and long travel

Extended travel coilovers run longer and may need aftermarket upper control arms. Long travel coilovers are only for trucks with long travel arms.

Pairs or singles

ARB BP-51 coilovers sell by side. Order left and right.

Upper control arms

At the top of the lift range, aftermarket upper arms keep the alignment and ball joint angle right.

Common questions

Will these fit a 2024 Tacoma?

The 2024+ Tacoma is a new design. This page is built for the 2016-2023 truck, so confirm your year on each listing.

How much lift do coilovers give?

Most give 0 to 3 inches up front, set on the coilover. Match the rear with a leaf spring or add-a-leaf so the truck sits level.

Do I need upper control arms?

Not for a small level. At 2 to 3 inches, aftermarket upper arms help keep the alignment in range.

What does the 700 lb spring rate mean?

It is a stiffer front spring for trucks carrying extra weight up front, like a steel bumper and winch.
