All about Shocks for 2-4 Inch Lifted 2019+ Ram 2500 and 3500

Level or lift a 2019+ Ram 2500 or 3500 and the factory shocks run near the end of their travel. That costs ride quality and wears them out. The fix is a shock built for your lift height. Everything here is sized for a 2 to 4 inch lift, from single shocks to complete front and rear packages. Brands here are Carli, Bilstein, FOX, ICON and King.

How to choose

  • Match the lift height. Shocks are built for a range, such as 2-2.5 inch, 3.25 inch or 4 inch. Too short and the truck tops out. Too long and it bottoms out. Buy the range that matches your truck.
  • 2500 or 3500. The 2500 uses rear coil springs and the 3500 uses rear leaf springs, so rear shocks are different. Some front shocks fit both.
  • Factory rear air. Trucks with factory rear air suspension need shocks made for it. Carli sells separate Air Ride packages.
  • Gas or diesel. Carli builds separate packages for Hemi and diesel trucks. Pick the one for your engine.
  • Shock type. Monotube shocks like the Bilstein 5100 are a solid upgrade for daily driving. Reservoir shocks, like the Bilstein 5160, FOX reservoir shocks and the Carli Pintop (built on King 2.5 shocks), hold more oil and stay consistent on long rough roads. King adjuster versions let you tune damping.
  • Pairs or singles. Some shocks sell individually, including Bilstein 8100 fronts sold by side. Order both sides.

FAQ

Can I keep my factory shocks after a 2.5 inch level?

You can, but they run close to full extension, which hurts ride and wears them faster. A shock built for your lift height fixes that.

Are 2500 and 3500 shocks the same?

Not in the rear. The 2500 has rear coil springs and the 3500 has rear leaf springs. Buy shocks listed for your model.

My truck has factory rear air suspension. What do I need?

Buy shocks or packages made for air ride trucks. Standard packages will not fit correctly.

Are these for 4WD trucks?

Many are 4WD specific. Check the listing for your drivetrain.
