2007-2018 Wrangler JK Death Wobble Fix Parts

All about 2007-2018 Wrangler JK Death Wobble Fix Parts

Death wobble is the violent shake that takes over the front end of a solid-axle Jeep after a bump, usually at highway speed, and only stops when you slow right down. It starts when something in the front end has play and a bump sets the axle oscillating. On a JK, look first at the front track bar (bushings, bolts and frame mount), the tie rod and drag link ends, and the ball joints. A lift makes it more likely because it changes track bar angle and caster. Brands here are Synergy, BDS, ICON, JKS and FOX.

How to choose

• Find the loose part first. With the Jeep on the ground and the engine running, have a helper rock the steering wheel while you watch each joint. A joint that moves before the part next to it has play.
• Track bar and mounts. An adjustable front track bar re-centres the axle after a lift. HD brackets and braces stiffen the mounts that work loose.
• Steering linkage. Heavy-duty tie rods and drag links resist bending with bigger tires. On a lifted JK, a drag link flip kit helps keep the drag link close to parallel with the track bar, which cuts bump steer.
• Ball joints. Synergy sets here fit the JK Dana 30 and Dana 44 front axles.
• Caster. Adjustable control arms let you set caster back after a lift, so the Jeep tracks straight instead of wandering.
• Steering stabilizer last. A stabilizer is a damper. It can calm the symptom, but it will not fix a worn part and can hide one until it gets worse. Fit it after the repair, not instead of it.

FAQ

Will a new steering stabilizer fix my death wobble?

No. It damps the steering and can make the wobble rarer, but the worn part is still there. Replace that part first.

What usually causes death wobble on a JK?

The front track bar and its mounts are the most common place to find play, but more than one joint is often worn. Check every joint in the front end before buying parts.

Do I need an alignment after these parts?

Yes. Replacing a tie rod, drag link, track bar or control arms changes toe, caster or axle position. Get an alignment once the work is done.

Do these parts fit a JL Wrangler or Gladiator?

Every part on this page fits the 2007-2018 JK. A few also fit the JL and Gladiator, and each listing shows its full fitment.
